SHAANTI PRESENTS… CHAMPION SOUND

Champion Sound is the underground illegitimate child of Birmingham’s Shaanti’s showcase night happening on the Saturday 19th July at Concrete.
Shaanti presents Champion Sound is a heavier and more serious outlook to music with the night’s typically funky approach. The programme is split into three sections: Live Vs DJ Vs Art.
This month Predatory Prey will headlining the night. For 5 years the combination of Dave Rodgers and Jalporte have been turning heads and changing minds real quick. A style that is not ordinary, nor in rhymes or beats, but yet sits quietly among all styles. Quiet until ready to explode upon its prey. When others have laughed a raw work-ethic and unmovable self-belief have carried these two far...and their still going. They’ll be performing live alongside Open Minded People DJs, Manga, Bass Flo and artist SKA will be exhibition exclusive prints from her upcoming show.
“The concept of Champion Sound is to sound-clash many musical forms and genres into one club sound. It’s about promoting new music on a underground level, It’s also a chance to showcase exclusive DJ sets from artists from the breaks, drum and bass, dub, liquid Jazz, Asian fusion… community together with an eclectic, intimate backdrop of raw undiluted live talent,” Manga, Founder of Shaanti says.
Champion Sound is all about the music first; it’s also a place where artists and new talent can network, showcase and jam with like-minded people who love music. In many ways it what Shaanti used to be like when it first launched back in 1999.
“To put it in a nutshell the night is about Championing New Sound.” He adds.
The parties launched every month from May, at the newly launched Concrete Club, where past guests have included Bugz in the Attic’s Co-op, Jazzonova, Eska Mtungwazi, Drop Beats Not Bombs Night My Bass, Miss Moneypenny’s (Twilight), Halo and Southport Weekender’s Choice Uber – underground basement at The Big Peg, formally The Old Boiler Room in Birmingham.

Shaanti arguably is one of the best global brands in the world. Still breaking the rules, the music Shaanti represented has shifted over the nine years as genres have progressed and developed. Tearing up genre conventions by showcasing every genre of music under the sun, veering from Asian breaks, Eastern drum n bass licks to searing electro workouts, rowdy breaks to groove focused house and joining all the dots in between.
