SAIN ZAHOOR BRINGS THE SOUL OF SUFI TO WEST IS WEST

The outstanding voice of the legendary  Sain Zahoorgraces the soundtrack of West is West, the sequel to the smash-hit movie, East is East.

Zahoor’s musical masterpiece, Aik Alif is the second single from the soundtrack, which follows the success of Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s Kaala Doria. 

Set to be a hit this season, Aik Alif, is a heart-warming and uplifting tune, both vocally and melodically. Zahoor’s breathtaking Sufi inspired tunes take listeners on a spiritual journey to rural Punjab, Pakistan, whilst his humble background can be heard in the haunting sounds of his folk music.

Commenting about Aik Alif, West is West’s producer, Leslee Udwin said: “It was a great honour to have Sain Zahoor on board for the film. His music and powerful presence so thrilled me to the core when I first encountered his talent, that I actually created a role for him in the film – I felt his sound was the ‘soul’ of the film”.

Zahoor has established himself within the World Music scene and received a prestigious BBC World Music Award in 2006 – without an agent,manager or a record deal! His genius works include; Toomba, Allah Hu and the soundtrack to Shoaib Monsoor’s Khuda Kay Liye.

 

‘West is West’, which is set for release on 25th February 2011, reunites original cast members Om Puri, Linda Bassett, Jimi Mistry, Lesley Nicol and Emil Marwa from the box office smash ‘East is East’.

Directed by Andy De Emmony (Fantabulosa) and written by Ayub Khan-Din (East is East), ‘West is West’ sees newcomer Aqib Khan star as Sajid, the youngest of the dysfunctional Khan family who is packed off to stay with Mrs Khan #1 and her family in the Punjab, the wife and daughters George abandoned 30 years earlier. It is not long before Ella Khan (Mrs Khan #2), with a small entourage from Salford, England, swiftly follows to sort out the mess, past and present.

 

WEST IS WEST will open in cinemas everywhere across the UK on 25th February 2011.

Sain Zahoor will undertake his first national tour of the UK in September-October 2011.

The soundtrack, distributed by Decca will be available from all leading retailers and to download digitally.
