Quite fitting considering Navin has five Number 1 hits on the UK Asian Charts under his belt, while Prita’s voice has filled stadiums across North America as the first South Asian recording artist to sing the national anthem for the NBA, MLB and most recently, NHL leagues.

The powerful track is supported by a great video, created by highly acclaimed director Jazz Virk, and offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at Navin and Prita on tour together. Fans of the stars can watch them rehearsing for their first collaborative live performance in real time, whilst offering a taste of their dynamic end result.

The ‘Dance’ video’s director Jazz Virk, who’s past video collaborations have included a host of high profile artists including Nelly Furtado and Basement Jaxx. Virk was also behind the biggest budget South Asian music video to date – ‘Rambo’ by multi-platinum Vancouver bhangra artist Jazzy B.

In addition to performances in Toronto, Prita and Navin recently headlined the 9th annual India Fest in West Palm Beach (Florida), and are currently planning several other performances across North America.

Prita, who hails from Florida is making waves across the world – she was recently crowned ‘Hottie of the Month’ in MAXIM India and was chosen for ANOKHI Magazine’s 2012 ‘Sexy & Successful’ List!  Prita has also just wrapped up a successful fundraising initiative with the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s ‘Dare Campaign’ where she dressed up as a cartoon character at Toronto’s Yonge & Dundas Square, in a flashback to her first job working at Orlando’s Disney World.

Prita will also be seen on billboards at Sears locations across Ontario this Summer, appearing as the face of Canada’s ‘Brown Man Clothing’ line for their latest t-shirt ad campaign. Females – who have often been marginalised in many cultures which claim to follow the Islamic Faith – will be given the unique opportunity to highlight and celebrate their accomplishments amongst their peers at the luxurious venue.

With this year’s speakers including Journalist and Broadcaster Lauren Booth, famously known as Tony Blair’s ‘Muslim’ sister-in-law, the event is set to make headlines for showing a different perspective to females living under the banner of Islam.

As a minority in faith but not in gender, the educated and successful females have decided to banish some of the popular myths surrounding the often scandalised and misrepresented gender by securing themselves a platform and taking to the stage.

According to the founder of Saverah Events who is the official organiser of The Urban Muslim Woman Show, strengthening Muslim Women is a long-term process but the UBM show – which seeks to empower women through targeted events and workshops – is a step in the right direction.

The event will also give Muslim women the opportunity to meet likeminded individuals and motivate struggling entrepreneurs and career women to break the glass ceiling which still remains an obstacle to success in both the east and the west. The event will no doubt be marking the calendar of every urban Muslim women in and around London.

The Urban Muslim Woman show will honour some of the UK’s most powerful Muslim Women in Business, Fashion, Journalism, Politics and Religion, including a fashion show featuring Islamic designers from UK and abroad, as well as a 3-course meal, exhibitions, stand-up comedy by Shaista Aziz.

In addition to hearing tips and advice from keynote speakers, attendees will also be provided with networking opportunities with Professionals, Entrepreneurs and Academics.

The digital station honours the Bollywood music industry’s finest in an insightful and entertaining TV programme. It explores and celebrates the lives of internationally renowned artists Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Adnan Sami and Kailash Kher as they embark on concert tours across the UK.

From Monday 14^th May at 6am on Sky, Freesat and Virgin and daily from 7.10pm on Freeview, the Red Button programme will offer viewers an exclusive and intimate insight into each of these three artists, their background and personal life experiences. iLL MANORS is the highly anticipated directorial debut by British music artist Ben Drew (aka Plan B), taking viewers on a thrilling ride through action and music.  The film stars highly acclaimed British Asian actor and musician Riz Ahmed in the lead role.

The first of its kind, iLL MANORS is a bold and visually stunning unique crime thriller, harrowing and shocking, yet laced with street-wise humour. Set in the backdrop of the unforgiving streets of London, the film follows six disparate lives, all struggling to survive the circles of violence that engulf them.

iLL MANORS revolves around a series of events that inter-weave between characters and their narrative interplay: Junkie Michelle (ANOUKSA MOND) is looking for her next hit, leading her to cross a destructive path with the raw and menacing thuggery of Ed (ED

SKRIEN) the local drug-dealer, who will stop at nothing to find his missing phone. Newly released from prison, ex-drug dealer Kirby (KEITH COGGINS), attempts to readjust back into the treacherous streets that put him away 15 years ago, and in doing so encounters

local gangster Chris (LEE ALLEN), on his own warpath, and out for revenge. The youngest of them all is Jake (RYAN DE LA CRUZ INDIANDA), who finds a dark and icy acceptance in a local gang lead by Marcel (NICKOLAS SAGAR). The outsider, Katya (NATALIE PRESS), races through the London streets to escape her sex traffickers and stumbles upon Aaron (RIZ AHMED), the central protagonist, just trying to do the right thing  – but torn between his head and his heart.

“My main characters were based on every single adult I know – because we spend our entire adult lives trying to fix the things that someone – our parents or someone – broke inside of us when we were kids “ – Ben ‘Plan B’ Drew

Ahmed, who was hand-picked for the role of Aaron by Ben Drew says of his character: “Aaron was someone who I felt like I hadn’t played before, because he’s someone who lives in a really kind tough environment, but who is really vulnerable. He’s a lot softer than he’s forced to make out, so I thought that was a really interesting and challenging combination.”

Riz concludes: “I think we can all relate to both my character and to the characters in iLL MANORS in general, even if our lives aren’t as messy or troubled as theirs. I hope that audiences will go on the same journey that I went on in developing Aaron’s character; which is that it’s not necessarily the same as my life at all, but the writing and the characterisation of the story draws you into it, until you invest enough and you feel like that person is fighting your battle.”

Narratively linked and deliberately disconnected through the original music from Plan B, iLL MANORS is ground breaking in its approach, and fast becoming one of the must see films of 2012. The film is visually direct and without apology, giving the viewer unprecedented access into the lives of each stranded character, those who have been avoided by society or ignored by the system.

EAST LONDON GEARS UP FOR THE BIGGEST MELA YET! 

The 14^th annual Boishakhi Mela, celebrating the Bengali New Year, is set to take revellers by storm this Sunday 20th May at Weavers Field & Brick Lane, Banglatown, Tower Hamlets. Organisers, the Boishakhi Mela Community Trust, are proud to announce an internationally acclaimed line up of artists to perform at this year’s Mela, which is set to attract an audience of over 100,000 from across the UK and beyond.

The newly introduced YOUTH STAGE sees British Bollywood singing sensation, Ash King, headlining a line up which includes Mumzy Stranger, Junai Kaden, Arjun, Bonafide, Raxstar and Shide Boss among other British Asian, local and international artists.

Headlining the ever-popular TRADITIONAL STAGE is Bangladeshi folk artist S I Tutul, who will be joined on a line up that features an array of award winning Bangladeshi modern pop, rock and Baul artists, including Sania Sultana Liza, Hassan, Mehreen and Anu Sarkar.

Speaking ahead of his first performance in East London, Bollywood’s Stardust award winner Ash King said:

“I am pleased to be performing at the Mela this year, my first time at this event. I have Bengali roots and am looking forward to celebrating the Boishakhi festival with the Bengali community in East London and will be performing all of my Bollywood numbers including ‘Te Amo’, ‘I Love You’ and ‘Aunty Ji’.”

Along with two stages at Weavers Field, from 12pm the Bethnal Green park will be transformed in to a funfair, traditional market and food court. The first ever Bangladeshi Trade Expo will be taking place in the newly introduced ‘Enterprise Zone’, which will begin as an exclusive showcase to invited guests on Saturday 19 May.

Brick Lane, the 2012 Curry Capital, will be a melting pot of activity, celebrating Bangladeshi food and culture. The world famous Lane will be transformed in to an outdoor alfresco dining experience where visitors can sample some of the finest traditional Bangladeshi curries on offer.

The traditional curtain raiser of the Mela, the Grand Procession returns, bigger and more colourful than before. The streets of East London will come alive to the sound of traditional Bangladeshi music as over 300 local school children, performing arts groups, dancers and sculptures come together to create a visual spectacular like no other.

The Boishakhi Mela VIP After Party takes place at the Rich Mix, walking distance from the mela on Bethnal Green road. The After Party will take place immediately after the mela from 7.30pm onwards, and will feature a set from BBC Radio 1′s DJ Nihal as well as BBC Asian Network DJ’s Sonny Ji, DJ Limelight and Kan D Man.

BBC Asian Network presenters, Tommy Sandhu and Noreen Khan, will be hosting the Youth Stage throughout the day. The Traditional Stage will have an array of hosts including BBC Asian Network’s Shawkat Hashmi, Anwarul Hoque and Mahbub Hussain, as well as Tanjira Nur-I Siddique, Shumon Khan and Shobnam Munir Tanisha.

Satellite broadcaster, Channel S, will be on site broadcasting live coverage of the Mela throughout the day. Community radio station Betar Bangla will be playing the sounds from the Mela live across the airwaves.
